Southern Bridal Show Booth @ Jim Graham Building / NC Fairgrounds

I was a vendor this weekend at the Southern Bridal Show at the NC State Fairgrounds.  This is one of the Forever Bridal shows that occur periodically throughout the year.  I met a huge amount of brides and thought there was a great turn out.  Some of my previous clients came and helped me work the booth this year.  It was such a joy to spend some time with them and I was very touched that they would take the time and spend the effort to help me out.

My booth this time was a 10×20 size and I feel like that was a better choice.  I was able to have a nice sitting area to let brides stop and view my albums and learn about my services.

If I met you at the show and you are interested in learning more, please contact me; I’d love to do a no-obligation consultation with you.

Louisburg, NC Wedding Photography @ The Hudson Manor Estate

The Wedding of Alyson and Tom took place yesterday at The Hudson Manor Estate. This is a beautiful venue just north of Raleigh in the piedmont of North Carolina. Alyson had the most beautiful wedding and I was honored to be a part of it. In addition to the traditional images such as the ones below, I also shot a 360 Panorama of the wedding party. Please enjoy these gorgeous wedding photographs.

Bridal Portrait Photography – Alyson @ The JC Raulston Arboretum

Alyson’s Bridal Portrait Photography was shot at the JC Raulston Arboretum last month. This landscaped garden is a very beautiful location in Raleigh, perfectly suited for portrait photography.

Alyson is getting married today and I’m so excited to capture her very special moments.  Please enjoy these Bridal Portraits and come back later to view her wedding photos.

I had the honor and privilege of shooting the wedding of Jenn and Clark yesterday.  The wedding took place at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Raleigh, NC.  The reception was at 1705 Prime, also in Raleigh.  The church venue was so beautiful and the ceremony was completely lovely!  After the ceremony, we departed for the reception and had and very fun and enjoyable evening.  What a fun day, I know everyone had a great time!  I hope these wedding photographs will help you envision what a fun time it was for everyone!  I wish Jenn and Clark the most blessed marriage!

Sigma 50 f/1.4 Art shootout with Canon 50 Prime Lenses

The 50mm Shootout

The Sigma 50 f/1.4 Art series lens that I ordered (see my previous blog post) arrived and I decided to do a shootout with several other 50mm Canon prime lenses.  I’m doing this based upon feedback that I received on my previous blog post that showed sharpness graphs from slrgear.com on various 50mm prime lenses.  Some folks didn’t believe the graphs or wanted to see the evidence for themselves in real world images.

I invited photographers from the Raleigh, NC area to my studio and we did a shootout with the following lenses:

Lenses

Sigma 50 f/1.4 Art

Canon 50 f/1.2L

Canon 55 f/1.2 FL converted to EOS with an Ed Mika adapter

Canon 50 f/1.4 USM

Video:

 Testing Parameters:

We shot each lens, one at a time.  I used a Canon 5D mark III and shot in live view mode.  I zoomed in to the model’s right eye and manually focused.  I did this to eliminate a focus issue like front or back focusing of the auto focus system.  I lit the subject with 2 Alienbee B400’s at the lowest power setting, one with a silver bounce umbrella and one with a cheap beauty dish.  I didn’t light the background and probably should have.  Each shot was at f/1.4, except for a wide open shot for the f/1.2 lenses at the end of each test for those lenses.  I’m going to only display the f/1.4 shot for each of those here but the images at f/1.2 are available in the dropbox location.

Results:

I have put both Raw and the straight out of the camera JPG files in this dropbox location.

 Conclusions:

After the shoot we had the participating photographers sit around the laptop and look at these images.  There was a overwhelming consensus that the Sigma did indeed beat all of the other lenses.  It was surprising how poorly the Canon 50mm f/1.2L did and how well the Canon 55mm f/1.2FL from the 1960’s did.  Overall, however, the Sigma does seem to live up to the hype.  I’d love to hear your comments below.

Thanks:

Thanks goes out to all of the photographers who participated, especially those bringing lenses to test.  Special thanks to our lovely model, Celina who was gracious enough to come help us out at this shoot out.

Video Production shot in Raleigh

I am the producer of a video production that was shot in the Victory Studio in Raleigh called “Astrobiology and the Vatican ET Connection”.  This video is being sold on Amazon right now.

This is the latest in several times that I’ve worked with Cris Putham on a project.  I also did a photoshoot with Cris and another video that is a small trailer for one of his books.

Wedding 360 degree Panoramas

A new service that I’m offering wedding clients is  Wedding 360 degree panoramas during the reception or perhaps other points during the day.  These panoramas are made in the same way as the Google Business View virtual tours and will become a part of the Google Maps and Google StreetView when they are created.  This product is called Google Views, and it is a really interesting way to document either the entire guest list or the bridal party.  The photos are called Equirectangular and are 360 degrees in every direction.  The only way to properly view these is to view them with a flash or HTML5 viewer or using the software that bends these back to a sphere such as Google Maps/StreetView.  This is how I’m doing it now, you can view these on Google.

Here’s some examples of some of these that I’ve done in recent weddings.  When I meet with you to discuss wedding photography, I’ll bring this up as an option to your package.

Dress for Success Triangle Sales Store – Google Views

I had the opportunity to shoot the virtual tour for the Dress for Success Triangle Sales store the other day when I shot the Dress for Success Triangle office which is located at the same mall in Durham, NC.  The Sales store is open only a few days a year and generates the revenue for their operation to run.  This is an awesome organization which helps women get business attire for interviews and jobs and helps people train and be successful.  What a great idea!

Google Business Views – Habitat for Humanity ReStore Cary, NC

The Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Cary, NC had their Google Business Views done with me today.  They are a store that resells donated items and the proceeds for those sales goes towards the Habitat for Humanity charitable efforts.  I think this is a great thing and I hope you visit this store if not virtually with the Google Business Views that I provided them, but in person to purchase something.  They are located convienently near downtown Cary off of Highhouse road.
